Hernia surgery has evolved over the last 50 years tremendously. In the past we used to suture the tissues together. This seemed to work well in the short term, but long term the recurrence rates were unacceptable. Then the synthetic mesh was developed. This was a success and since the recurrence rates went to very low levels. Now a days w use the same mesh and different types of material. There are also many techniques that have evolved and perfected over the years. I do a lot of hernia surgery and have experience with many of the differnt types of meshes out there and the procedure.
